Bourbon Street is steeped in a lively history dating back to 1718 when New Orleans was founded by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. Also known as "Rue Bourbon," Bourbon Street stretches for 13 blocks from Canal Street to Esplanade Avenue in the heart of the French Quarter. A home to burlesque clubs, jazz, and legendary bars such as Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, a bar/restaurant housed in a 1772 Creole cottage, and the Old Absinthe House.
